On May 16, Ukrainians will celebrate a holiday dedicated to the preservation of the traditions of Ukrainian national clothing - Vyshyvanka Day.
An idea that arose at one time occured to a student of the Chernivtsi National University named after Yurii Fedkovych and was caught by the Ukrainian diaspora on as a flash mob.
Due to its wide popularization, the Vyshyvanka Day has acquired international dimensions. Ukrainian traditional clothes are happily worn by citizens in 70 countries of the world.
Supporting the preservation of national values as part of the all-Ukrainian patriotic campaign "Spiritual Code of the Nation", juvenile prevention staff of the Main Department of the National Police in the Mykolaiv Region together with the Cultural and Artistic Association "Art-Spokusa" held an embroidery master class for Mykolaiv children. They were hospitably hosted by the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi.
"The National Police joined the all-Ukrainian campaign "Spiritual Code of the Nation". This action is aimed at teaching and involving children in the study of the traditions of the regions of Ukraine. The day before, children and we made a motanka doll, which today we will decorate with vyshyvanka, inherent in the patterns and ornaments of the Mykolaiv region," says Natalia Boiko, senior inspector of the department of juvenile prevention of the Main Department of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region.
The iconic system of South Ukrainian ornaments is quite simple and clear. The ornamentation of embroidered products varies from geometric to plot-thematic, including phytomorphic, zoomorphic, ornithomorphic, anthropomorphic. A large number of embroidered products of the south are characterized by plant and flower ornament.
"We used wild flower symbols for embroidery. Because here in the south of Ukraine, wildflowers were depicted very often on embroidery. And on the embroidery, which symbolizes our region, we decided to depict wildflowers. This flower is similar to any field flower, so we depicted it symbolically. There is a cross at the base, and the cross is a symbol of the sun. This is a talisman. That's why we have such an image on our embroidery," says Mykolaiv craftswoman Olha Tarasova.
The Mykolaiv doll in a blue skirt and a white scarf, decorated with southern embroidery, will represent the Northern Black Sea region at the national level.
