On March 15, 1950, poet, journalist, translator, public figure, long-time editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Vechernii Nikolaev", Honored Journalist of Ukraine (1999) Volodymyr Yuriovych Puchkov (1950-2019) was born.
The name of Volodymyr Puchkov is well known in Mykolaiv and beyond.
The writer's creative work includes poetry collections, newspaper publications, songs have also been created based on his words, he is one of the authors of the Mykolaiv anthem. Volodymyr Yuriovych was a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, the National Union of Writers of Ukraine. He had numerous awards and honors. He was a member of the editorial board of the Mykolaiv literary and artistic magazine "Soborna Street". In 2011-2014, he was one of the initiators and chairman of the jury of the open annual All-Ukrainian poetry festival "Waterline".
The famous poet and journalist paid great attention to public activities. For many years, he headed the "Mykolaiv-2000" charitable foundation, with the support of which artistic books and photo albums were published, in particular on local history topics, and high-profile cultural events took place. In 2015-2019, he headed the organizing committee of the city-wide program "Person of the Year. Citizen of the year".
Volodymyr Yuriovych often visited our library, took an active part in image events, was a member of the public council, where his creative evenings and presentations of new poetry collections took place.
On September 9, 2022, a memorial sign to Volodymyr Puchkov was unveiled in the Literary Square near our library. The event was dedicated to the City Day. The memorial sign was made and installed at the expense of the city budget. The author is Ivan Bulavytskyi, a famous sculptor from Mykolaiv, Honored Worker of Arts of Ukraine.
Today, March 15, on the poet's birthday, the librarians of the Central City Library named after M.L. Kropyvnytskyi together with the director Inha Khorzhevska gathered in the Literary Square to remember Volodymyr Yuriovych, his work, read the poet's poems and laid flowers at the memorial sign.
